My name is Anna Maria Bortolotto and I am AMB Creations: owner, operator, artist, artisan, writer, answerer of emails, designer, photographer, and doer of whatever needs doing right now. 

 

I am a multi-media artist, designer, creator, and maker who explores traditional and modern techniques to produce unique and cherished handcrafted works.

 

Calgary, Alberta, Canada is my home, and Calgary and area is home to rich diversity. Diverse landscapes: mountains and prairies, fields and forests, lake-lands and bad-lands. Diverse climates: from arid river valleys with wild cactus, rattle snakes, and dinosaur fossils, to world-class, snow-capped mountains and foothills where bears, buffalo, and downhill- and cross-country skiers roam. Diverse cultures: from indigenous peoples, multi-generational communities, new immigrants, and refugees from all over the world, each sharing their cultural centres, festivals, cuisines, languages, arts, and traditions.

 

I am inspired by the what I discover in the world around me, the materials I find there, and the possibilities I see within them.

I believe that:

• Creativity is essential.

• "Handmade" means "personal and unique", "of quality materials", and "by skilled hands".

• Form and function are not mutually exclusive.

• The imperfections in works created by hand are a vital part of what makes them personal and unique.

• It is our responsibility to reduce, reuse, repurpose, or recycle the "potentially discarded".

• We must not limit ourselves to the possibilities we see today, but instead, strive towards the possibilities we will discover tomorrow.

 

I specialize in original, one-of-a-kind (OOAK), and limited edition works that are often impossible to reproduce. i.e due to availability of the materials. That said, in some cases it is possible to create an item similar to, or in the spirit of, an existing item. I also look forward to collaborating with you on custom and/or personalized designs. The imperfections in works created by hand are a vital part of what makes them personal and unique. My works may retain the irregularities and imperfections that are an inherent part of their handcrafted construction. Such distinguishing marks are expected and desirable as evidence of their handmade origins, and enhance the aesthetic value of a work. Take pride in handmade!
